Ida Maria - "Oh My God"
This song goes out to my friend Schmakel in honor of his birthday today. He's the first person I heard talk about this band, way before Jim DeRogatis ( DeRo's Top 10 2009) claimed them as having the best album of 2009. Good job Schmaks.
If you see a guy who looks like a cross between Beeker and Matt Lauer today, wish him happy birthday.
For the music fan who falls somewhere between "skinny jeans" and "dockers". Do you listen to the Talking Heads and Peter Gabriel for the 13,675th time on your local radio station just in hopes of hearing the new Black Keys song? Then we can help. Do you have to Google bands that are on Yo Gabba Gabba? Then you can be saved. When people ask what new music you're digging, are the only songs that come to mind "the one from that commercial"? Then we'll point you in the right direction.

Week 1 vs. WXRT:
Actual text I received from a friend yesterday "I Thought "Love Shack" was reserved for weddings only? better question, why do I still listen to XRT?"

12:37 Nirvana "all apologies (unplugged)"
12:41 Tom Morello/The Nightwatchmen "whatever it takes"
BREAK
12:52 Santana "smooth/ featuring Rob Thomas"
12:57 Green Day "restless heart syndrome"
1:01 Who "behind blue eyes"

Song of the Day
Broken Social Scene - "Texico Bitches" (5/4/10)
Yes, the band that features Feist, Jason Collet, Kevin Drew, members from Stars, Metric, Apostle of Hustle and just about every other band from Canada, is back. It has to be hard to stay focused as a band with so many side projects but they don't disappoint on this new album. The album is all over the place but I think this song best represents them.
They'll be playing in Chicago at Pitchfork on Friday, July 16th. Depending on what time of day they are playing it's either a "Bring the Kids" or "Call the Babysitter" event not to be missed.
Texico Bitches
Here's a video from the last album that wasn't technically a BSS album, it was "presented" by BSS . notice J Mascis and Lou Barlow from Dinosaur Jr. making a cameo on drums and bass

Album of the Week
Band of Horses - Infinite Arms (5/18/10)
Early indications are that this could be the go to album of the summer. They sound like summer, fresh, hot, sunny, sad, mellow, upbeat and happy with a slice of lemon, like the smell of cigarettes at a baseball game (back in the day) that for some reason, even though you hate the smell of cigarettes, brings back good memories. Their last album, Cease to Begin, which came out almost three years ago, is one of my favorites. Listen to the first song, "Is There a Ghost" from the last album and you'll be hooked. I saw them last year, when my daughter was negative 3 weeks, at the kids stage at Lollapallooza. It made me crazy like coconuts, in a good way. You probably know them from the song "The Funeral", which is from their first album, Everything All The Time, and was featured in a bunch of commercials. Bottom line - buy the new album, it will put you in the mood for summer. Download a free song from the album here if you want to check it out first.
