As mentioned above, it's not a good sign that you are on the road to musical bliss if the only new music you know comes from TV ads or a show like Gossip Girl. That doesn't mean that all TV music used as "beds" (radio term for background music) is bad, a lot of it is really good and deserves some recognition here.
See if you can guess which Ad these songs are from. Answers "after the jump" (silly blogging term for click on the "read more" link).

OK, that's all I have time for now, still catching up after a Lolla weekend...next time I promise I'll bring up the fact that Target used a band named Starfu*%#er for one of their ads.
1) Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes "Home" for PalmOS
2) you may confuse it with the other Edward Sharpe song "Janglin" used for this Ford Fiesta ad
3) The Sea and Cake "Jacking the Ball" for Citibank - It's so great that a relatively unknown band was used in a big campaign like this. It probably helped this Chicago band get a window ac unit to survive this hot summer. The ad says something about spending wisely through Citibank...right. So instead of investing in another corporate jet through fiscal prudence, spend $9 and buy a Sea and Cake album. It's well worth it.
4) YACHT - "Psychic City" I've mentioned this song before, my daughter loves it. It's from the ad for the 2010 Cadillac SRX Crossover. Last year's model used Phoenix's "1901" for the ad campaign. Someone at Cadillac has good ears, or at least knows how to hire an agency and approve the campaign with good ears.
I can't seem to find the new ad campaing, here is the one featuring Phoenix
For the music fan who falls somewhere between "skinny jeans" and "dockers". Do you listen to the Talking Heads and Peter Gabriel for the 13,675th time on your local radio station just in hopes of hearing the new Black Keys song? Then we can help. Do you have to Google bands that are on Yo Gabba Gabba? Then you can be saved. When people ask what new music you're digging, are the only songs that come to mind "the one from that commercial"? Then we'll point you in the right direction.
