She + Him was great last night. The band that Zooey Deschanel and M Ward have backing them is really tight and talented and her voice carried perfect all the way to the back of the park, where I was sitting. A whole lot of the skinny jean crowd was there last night, way more people probably than records the band has sold. I'm not sure where they all parked their fixed gear bikes.
Apparently the Monday night shows and Millennium are really popular now. I arrived about an hour before the first band played and still had to squeeze in a spot in the back. If you go, go before the loop crowd gets out of work at 5 and set up space. It really doesn't matter sound wise where you sit, it sounds great everywhere, but if you want to see the band you have to be in the front half of the yard.
my daughter was sleepy by the end...
For the music fan who falls somewhere between "skinny jeans" and "dockers". Do you listen to the Talking Heads and Peter Gabriel for the 13,675th time on your local radio station just in hopes of hearing the new Black Keys song? Then we can help. Do you have to Google bands that are on Yo Gabba Gabba? Then you can be saved. When people ask what new music you're digging, are the only songs that come to mind "the one from that commercial"? Then we'll point you in the right direction.
